Do I really look that old?........On second thoughts don't answer that question!!!!

I got up early this morning, had a coffee, jumped in the shower ~ dried my hair and styled it with the hair straighteners.....put on my make ~ up and got dressed ~ I was in a happy happy mood!!
Looking in the mirror ~ I didn't think I looked that bad ~ hopefully not doing too badly for the 38 years that I will be on Sunday!!!! (My goodness ~ I am sure I was only 18 yesterday!!!).......
My Darling children got up ~ breakfast started and the usual breakfast table chat started......
For some reason we got onto the subject of bikes (both Dan and Lauren want new bikes this Summer ~ better plant that money tree quick!!!!).......
Suddenly Lauren said "Did you have a bike when you were little Mum?"
I replied that I did and it had streamers on the handlebars and a basket on the back.
She looked a bit bemused and continued ~ "Was it one of those ones with one wheel bigger than the other?"........I thought for a while, thinking maybe she meant a chopper bike (I think they have different sized wheels )~ so I said that no, I didn't have a chopper bike.
She them looked even more bemused ~
"No, not one of them Mum, the one with the really big wheel and really small wheel!"
At this point daniel looked up from his bowl of cornflakes and said "I think she means a Penny Farthing Mum"..........
Lauren nodded, "That's it a Penny Farthing, was that what you had?"
Well ~ I nearly chocked on my coffee "NO I DID NOT, I AM NOT THAT OLD!!"
"Oh" The little darling continued "Was just wondering!"
Penny Farthing!!! ~ I ask you!! ~
(Am off to the shops tomorrow morning ~ for the largest tub of anti wrinkle cream that they stock!!!! XX)

I had this same question recently - these kids must have seen one of those "old" bikes on TV or something. How funny!

Have a good day - see you soon - Kellan

Well, at least now I know what a Penny Farthing is!!

I hope you continue to be in a happy happy mood throughout the weekend.

Hugs,
Tania
PS: I sent some snail mail to you on Tuesday but I'm guessing that you haven't received it yet. I realise I've blown the surprise now, but I had hoped to be in time for your birthday. Ah well, it may be a nice start of the coming week then.

Hi Tania ~ This blog is very educational ha ha!!!
I am still in a happy mood, despite my daughters comments this morning ha ha!!!

Guess what, there is an envelope here (a birthday card!!), and I think it is from you ~ it arrived this morning ~ I have put my cards on the table, to open them on Sunday ~ and there is definitly one from Belgium!!!! Thank you so much ~ I will look forward to opening them on Sunday (I am silly like that ~ I keep all my cards until my birthday and sit and open them in the morning!!).
Take care my friend ~ snail mail is just the best thing ever!!

lmao, tabitha... before reading i caught the picture and feared you were going to go the penny farthing route as opposed to the horse and cart!!!

don't you just totally dig being made to feel MUCH older than you really are by your kids??? i saw that kellan chimed in quickly on this one as she did have a very similar conversation, recently.
that is so funny:D
katherine would never bring up what kind of bike i had because that might evoke a conversation about the fact that she never learned to ride one... nope, we have bought her three (each bigger than the previous); but, she refused to learn. katherine will do nothing that might require getting dirty nor cause bodily harm:S
i wish you lived closer because i would be happy to give you two bikes (she has a darling pink bike with a basket and streamers on the handlebars and her last one was a red mountain bike that daniel would love)!!!
that settles it; you are going to have to move to the states!!!
love,
dani

I'm so glad it arrived on time! I actually think it's a really sweet idea to keep all your cards unopened till your actual birthday. It'll make Sunday even more special.

I'd probably be too curious to wait... :)

Love,
Tania

Dani ~ my kids have that way of making you feel old, without really meaning to!!
Lauren and Dan have had numerous bikes, and numerous scrapes!!
They have both grown out of theirs and I promised them one this summer ~ but haven't done it yet!!
Yes ~ I need to move to America ~ I will go and pack now ha ha!!!

Hi Christy ~ My daughter can come out with the weirdest thing ~ most people wouldn't know what one was ~ it must have been just the British that were mad enough to ride them ha ha!!!
Looks a bit dangerous to me LOL!!

Hi Tabitha

I am so impressed that Daniel and Lauren know what a Penny Farthing is. Isn't is funny how children think that when we were young we were living in the late 1800s!!

When I was younger I asked my mum and dad if they wrote with a feather when they were at school. I still remember their reactions to this day.

Love
Elise

Hi Tanya ~ thank so much for that lovely comment ~ believe me, there are days when I feel 138 and my children have that lovely way of making you wonder if a few extra winkles have crept up on me overnight!!!
Never mind ~ aparently life begins at 40, so 2 more years and I am there ha ha!!!!

Hi Elise ~ Dan actually did a project earlier this school year about modes of transport over the years and of course the penny farthing was included ~ Lauren always takes a great interest in what he is doing and is just a sponge (she soaks it all in and forgets NOTHING!! ha ha). I dread to think what she will come out with next!!
Hope all is well with you ~ am counting down the days with you!!

Hi Tabitha

I just read your comment on my blog about the snail mail.

You are so kind including everyone. What a wonderful surprise to receive something from you, made even more special because I certainly wasn't expecting anything. Nothing has turned up yet, but boy am I excited to check the mail again on Monday.

I hope you accept my apology in advance as I will be sending belated birthday wishes your way (I am sorry that they have to be belated this time). A trip to the shops to organise this will be one of the first outings I have with Mini and Sav. I am sad to say that I have not been able to get something to you for your special day (as I would have liked to).

Thank you so much Tabitha for being such a kind, thoughtful and fun friend.

Lots of love
Elise
