I have another Small dilema ~ nothing serious (never is ha ha !!) ~ but I thought that I would put it out there in blog land and see what you think!!
You know that Christmas is creeping up on us at a great rate and I have started to go into hyperactive overdrive about it all (same every year tee hee!!) . The problem is ~ last year we stayed here for Christmas ~ so I decorated the whole place ~ inside, outside ~ it looked great ~ quite a christmas wonderland! The kids totally loved it and so did I .........BUT......I totally, utterly and completely HATE taking down all the decorations, taking down the tree ~ packing it all away ~ I just hate it soooooooooo much!! It is bad enough when we have been here all through the festive period ~ and then I have to tidy it all away ~ at least we have had the pleasure of it and enjoyed it all!
BUT ~ this year we are going away to my Mums for Christmas ~ so we basically won't be here until after new year! Meaning that everything that I put up will be here waiting for me to pack away (and hate EVERY minute) after we come back from my Mums ~ making it even worse! PLUS ~ we will not actually be here to enjoy or benefit from any of the decoration!!!
SO.........I have a dilema!! Part of me is really mean (tee hee) and thinks that I will just do the minimum that I have to here (baah humbug!!) ~ as the children will have all the fun of decorating the tree at my mums and putting up the decorations and all that Christmassy bit! (and I have none of the putting it all away part!!) ~ but I really don't want to put up all the decorations and a huge big tree ~ but I know that the children will not be impressed with having an undecorated house until the 3rd week of december (yes ~ I am scrooge!!) ~ SO ~ I am thinking that I will put out the decorations on the fireplace and the ones that flash in the window ~ and maybe buy a smaller pre decorated fibre optic tree ~ that can be just put in a box when we come back and doesn't have to be taken apart and I won't have to spend 3 million years taking off all the baubles and lights blaah blaaaah blaaaahhhh!!!
Please can I just add at this point that I do actually LOVE Christmas ~ all of it ~ crackers, tinsel, mince pies, christmas pud and brandy butter ~ carols, snow and all that jazz.......I just cannot cope with an almost 6 hour trip back here in the New Year ~ to be faced with santas grotto (which it resembled last year!!) ~ and me having to clear it away (that's all ~ honest!!)
So, do you think that sounds acceptable ~ a very minimal christmas here ~ followed by the full works at my Mums (she isn't aware of this plan yet ~ she knows that we are coming ~ but not the part about making it look like Santas Grotto!!! ~ I will break that to her once we are there bahahahahah!!!!!)........
I have been online and found a great fibre optic tree ~ that has stars on it and looks really wonderful ~ I just have to convince my 2 little stars that they don't need a 6ft tree this year ~ and we definitly don't need 300 twinkling icicles hung around the outside windows ~ which I nearly broke my neck putting up....and taking down last year! ~ REMEMBER ~ I love christmas honestly............I maybe just need an elf (or Daniel Craig in an elf outfit tee hee!!!) to come and help me decorate for Christmas ......and then magically UNDECORATE it for me when New Year arrives!!

Ok Tabitha - here's my opinion. Christmas is not about the decoration, the food or the presents. Your kids won't remember ALL that stuff from year to year. What you need are a few family traditions that you do each and every year without fail. Make them special and memorable. Take pictures and journal the memories. Have your kids note their special thoughts. If you move, if you're traveling - you can maintain your tradition.
2 years ago we were in a hotel until Dec 23rd - but with us came our nativity and a small tree with specific decorations (to which we add 2 every year). My kids don't remember we were virtually homeless - but they remember which ornaments we added that year.
Simplify - and enjoy.
Blessings, Kim
Hi Tabitha! That is a dilemma, especially when Lauren and Daniel are going to want to decorate not only at their grandmother's, but at their own house as well!
But, if I were in your position, I would do what you're thinking about and just decorating in the front room. Not a big hassle, and it will look nice if someone looks :D
Yikes, it's pretty scary that Christmas is that soon :/ It doesn't seem like the beginning of November AT ALL!! But, it's time to start saving more and more money, and to begin buying those presents!

Hannah
Oh dear...!
Common sense would say just go for minimal decoration, but...!
I think decorating the fire place and the fibre optic tree sounds just fine. That's what i would do.
Good Luck with your choice ( don't let Dan and Lauren emotionally blackmail you!!!) tee-hee!
Looking forward to 'seeing' what you decide on!
love,

Thanks so much Kim ~ your words are so true ~ it is the spirit of Christmas that matters ~ not all the other added frills!!
The children have their own little tree in their bedroom and they get to choose a new bauble each year ~ so I suppose that is a sort of tradition!!
I think that your ideas ~ regarding the notes abd journals are a wonderful idea and I think I may give them a go this year.
Thank you so much for your comment ~ gives me some fresh ideas!
love and hugs XXXXXX
Thanks Hannah ~ I am glad that you agree!!
I know what you mean about christmas creeping up ~ this time last year I was all sorted ~ wrapped the lot....this year I have hardly started and the purse strings are soooo much tighter too!!
love and hugs XXXXXXXX
Hi Amanda ~ you hit the nail right on the head!! Emotional blackmail is a real problem ha ha !!
I think that they will be happy with the minimal and as long as they have their advent calendars ha ha ~ I think all will be ok!!
hope you are well ~ love and hugs XXXX
Go minimal! You already have a full plate with the traveling. You already know the answer, LOL. You're just trying to deal with the guilt! hahaha! The season is for enjoying EACH OTHER, not about littering the whole house in festive trimmings!
Hi Donna ~ I think you may be right!! ~ Minimal is the best idea ~ and you are right about the guilt too ha ha !!

I love what Kim says, that really puts it into perspective. Go the minimal but special xmas things.

Yep go minimal, you're still going to have all the glitz & glam at your mum's!! I don't think I could face taking down the tree & all the decorations after a long trip home either.. let us know what you decide!!
BTW thanks for stopping by to say hi! just been busy house hunting, work, Sheye's workshop, kids.... LIFE! lol!!!! hope to get some photos up on my blog soon.. thanks again :)

hey, tabitha:) i say do the minimal without pointing out that fact to your kids. you can always add (a little) if they seem to be depressed with the situation (bahahahahahahahaaaa); that way if you do add (a little), at their request, you still don't have a lot to put away and you've met them halfway:b

dani
Just lay out some small decorations, maybe on a fireplace or dining table and just let it Go! Let the children take their favorite decoration to Grammies house and put it where they want! Just explain it to them! I know they'll approve! Happy day sugar!hughugs
Great ideas. I think we all need to get minimal. Go for it. I will follow your lead okay.
Hi Juz ~ I loved what she said too ~ so true ~ and I think minimal it is this year!!
love and hugs XXXX

My Mum is ok with the big decorating this year ~ so all should be ok!

Hi Donna ~ that is a great idea about the decorations ~ I think that I will take them out and let them choose a decoration and we can take it with us!!
